Maybe you're a keto pro or maybe you're just starting to think about switching over. Either way, let's start with the basics
What is a keto diet?
A keto or ketogenic diet is a low-carb diet that helps you burn fat more effectively. But how? Well, when you eat a low-carb diet your body produces "ketones", a small fuel molecule used as an alternative fuel source when glucose or blood sugar supply is low. Your liver makes these "ketones" from fat, and when you are eating fewer carbs and fewer amounts of excess proteins your liver is able to make a lot more. And since your brain can't run on fat directly it runs on glucose or... ketones.
When you eat a ketogenic diet your body switches its fuel supply to mostly fats rather than glucose, allowing you to burn off fat at a faster rate.
Why do the keto diet?
The keto diet is not only a great way to lose weight but it also
• Reduces your appetite
• Triglycerides decrease (fat molecules in your bloodstream)
• Increase in high-density lipoprotein (the "good" cholesterol)
• Reduced blood sugar and insulin
• Has the potential to lower blood pressure
• Combats metabolic syndrome
• Increases energy levels and ability to focus
• Helps to prevent heart disease
